How to Get Light Clay in Pokemon Unbound?
When starting the Major Miner mission, the quest giver will tell you that Light Clay can be obtained when you mine the walls of the KBT Expressway. But this will take forever and a lot of grinding.
The most efficient way of getting Light Clay that I always use is the Thieving Baltoy strategy. Basically, you use Thief on wild Pokemon that hold it, like Baltoy, to collect as many Light Clays as you need.
Things You’ll Need:
- Pokemon with Thief
- DexNav
- Poke Balls (Optional)
Step 1: Have a Pokemon With Thief

This strategy of getting Light Clay makes use of Thief. So first, you need a Pokemon that has this move.
You can also use the Thief TM from the Crater Gym and teach it to your Pokemon.
Some Pokemon that can learn this move include Mightyena, Kecleon, Butterfree, Malamar, etc. Most normal types and dark types can learn Thief. But I decided to go with Butterfree because it’s the best Pokemon for the job.
You can also use Pokemon with Super Luck and Knock Off, like an Absol caught outside Crystal Peak.
First off, Butterfree can learn Thief and is easy to evolve. Plus, it has Compound Eyes as its ability. This increases the chance of wild Pokemon holding a rare item when you put Butterfree as the lead or first Pokemon in your party.
Step 2: Go to Ruins of Void

Ruins of Void is home to Pokemon that hold Light Clay, especially in B3F. They are Baltoy, Claydol, Golett, and Golurk.
Personally, I hunt Baltoy because have lower stats and are quite slow. This is where you’ll need the DexNav. The DexNav allows you to choose the Pokemon you want to encounter.

Open up your DexNav, select Baltoy, and choose Scan. It works for all Pokemon that are ed as caught. Then, go to the rumbling spot near you to encounter the Pokemon.
Don’t forget to put Butterfree or your Thief Pokemon in front and make sure it doesn’t hold any item.
After encountering a Baltoy, the first thing you should look for is a Poke Ball icon behind its name. This signifies that the Pokemon is holding an item.
If it doesn’t have one, then don’t waste your time and just run immediately.
Step 3: Use Thief on Baltoy

If you find a Baltoy that’s holding an item, it’s time to use Thief. This will let your Pokemon damage the Baltoy and take the item it’s holding.
After the battle, you need to take the Light Clay that your Pokemon stole.
You also have the option of catching the Pokemon and taking the Light Clay directly from it, but that would incur additional Poke Ball costs. Thief or Knock Off is still the most efficient method.
Now you can just rinse and repeat, and you can have all the Light Clays you need.
