Is Fidough a Good Pokemon in Scarlet and Violet?

Fidough brings more than just visual and heart appeal to the table. This Pokemon offers a unique set of strengths, especially if you want to diversify your team with a Fairy-type Pokemon. Here are Fidough’s strengths that you should play with:
1. Fairy Typing
Even in generation 9, Dragon types are a huge problem and they can wipe out your entire team if you face them unprepared and without a counter.
However, this dog loves these mighty dragons with its Fairy typing.
Fidough is immune to all Dragon-type attacks and it is super effective against them. It can also counter Fighting and Dark-type Pokemon, which are very dangerous offensive threats in Gen 9.
2. Evolution Potential and Signature Ability
Fidough can be unassuming in battles as a pup, but wait till it evolves into Dachsbun starting at Level 26.
This evolution gives it access to improved stats and a unique signature ability called Well Baked Body.
When hit by a Fire-type move, Dachsbun will increase its Defense stat by two stages, and that move will have no effect on it.
This makes Dachsbun a pain to deal with, knowing that fighting it is a backfire waiting to happen.
Unevolved, Fidough has the ability Own Tempo, which prevents it from becoming confused.
3. High Defense and Decent
Fidough and Dachsbun both have defense-oriented stats, making them great checks for physical attackers. Combine that with Fairy typing that makes it resistant to Fighting, Dragon, Bug, and Dark, and you have a reliable tank and Pokemon.
I always teach Dachsbun Wish and Protect so it can stall the opponents while I bring down their offense using Play Rough.
You can also go for a Baton set and utilize its high defense to set up your sweeper.
How to Use Fidough/Dachsbun in Battles

While this Pokemon is not an S-tier for battling, it can be a good and tank if you know how to use it well. Here’s the set I use for my Dachsbun:
Dachsbun’s Moveset Build @ Leftovers
Ability | Well-Baked Body |
Tera Type | Steel |
EVs | 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def |
Nature | Impish |
Moves | – Wish – Protect – Play Rough – Body Press / Yawn / Charm / Snarl / Roar |
This moveset makes Dachshund an irritating tank that can stall and weaken enemies. Well Baked Body gives it that fire immunity and a game-changing counter if you manage to switch it into a fire attack.
Wish gives it a sustain mechanism and allows it to heal teammates. Protect lets you stall a turn and get more healing from Wish and Leftovers.
Play Rough is a nice STAB move that also has a chance to lower your target’s Attack stat by one stage.
The last move is up to you and what team you have. Body Press is good all-around coverage and it uses Dachsbun’s high Defense stat when computing damage.
Snarl and Charm will let you slow down both physical and special attackers. Yawn and Roar, on the other hand, allow you to phase sweepers that are setting up.
Tankiness, utility, and surprise factor are your best weapons when using Fidough and Dachsbun.
Where to Find Fidough in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

According to its Pokedex entry, Fidough likes to live near humans. Dogs are man’s best friend after all.
In the Paldea region, you will first meet this Pokemon in the Prologue area, including the following locations:
- East Province (Area Three)
- South Province (Area One)
- South Province (Area Two)
- South Province (Area Three)
- South Province (Area Six)
- West Province (Area Three)
- The Pokemon League
You can catch Fidough in Los Platos, and the good thing is you are required to through there during the tutorial. Fidough can also be found near Mesagoza & Cortondo.
Fidough is quite easy to catch, but it rarely appears in Los Platos. That’s why I avoid catching one earlier because this saves me time and allows me to create a stronger Fidough more efficiently later by capturing this Pokemon in South Province.
How to Evolve Fidough Into Dachsbun?

Fidough evolves into Dachsbun at Level 26. Unlike some Pokemon that require specific items or friendship levels, Fidough evolves simply by leveling up.
Here’s how their stats change before and after evolution:
Fidough Base Stats | Dachsbun Base Stats |
---|---|
HP: 37 | HP: 57 |
Attack: 55 | Attack: 80 |
Defense: 70 | Defense: 115 |
Special Attack: 30 | Special Attack: 50 |
Special Defense: 55 | Special Defense: 80 |
Speed: 65 | Speed: 95 |
Total: 312 | Total: 477 |
Conclusion
So, is Fidough a good Pokemon after all? It turns out, it’s quite average. But Fidough brings its own unique set of strengths and uses to the table and can be a worthy addition to your team.
While Fidough doesn’t shine competitively, it can still be a reliable ally that can take a lot of hits.
