The cheat works in a way where they modify the Slot Number of your Pack under ITEMS. When you have other existing items, you must choose the Rare Candy code on a vacant slot.

In the image below, you can see POTION x2, which is situated on SLOT 1. ANTIDOTE x1 is placed in SLOT 2. The RARE CANDY x 0 is the cheat code we used, namely the Slot 3 code.

How the rare candy cheat works

If you use the Rare Candy code for Slot 1, then all items after Slot 1 will be removed. The code will by all other items under it, so it is advisable to choose a code for the slot after.

If you also skip a slot, the cheat will not work. It has to be the code after the item that is currently in your Pack.

When you’re done, you can just remove the Rare Candy cheat and your items will be back to normal, as seen in the image below.

Problems With the Cheat

If the cheat doesn’t work, double if you used the correct cheat code. The cheat certainly works for base Crystal ROMs. However, for Crystal-based ROM hacks, it might be a case-to-case basis.

The hack itself may not allow cheats, so there’s nothing we can do about that.

Wiping Out Your Other Items

We mentioned this earlier, but we’ll say it again. If you don’t want to lose any of your items under ITEMS, then use a Rare Candy code after the last slot.

If you want and if you can do so, empty your items and put them into the PC. Use the cheat and withdraw any items back to your Pack again.

The other items in other sections of the Pack like Balls and TM/HM are not affected. Just to remove the cheat to clear out your Pack.

Raising Pokemon Through Rare Candies Doesn’t Make Them That Strong

This is an old fact, especially for Gen 2. Pokemon that are leveled through Rare Candies do not get good EV growth. If you’re concerned about that, then you might want to limit the use of the candy.

If you don’t care about EV, since you may end up plowing the game anyway, then that’s fine too.

When to Use Rare Candies

If you’re stuck in some areas due to a stronger trainer, then use some Candies just to get a bit stronger.

Overleveling your Pokemon isn’t that good since they may not listen to your commands if you don’t have the right Badge yet.

It can also be a good idea to use them if you just want to collect Pokemon. Some Pokemon evolve by leveling up.

Use the Candies to evolve them to save you some time. You probably won’t use them anyway.

In Closing

Now you have an idea about everything related to the Pokemon Crystal Rare Candy cheat, you may want to start using it or think for a moment.

The steps aren’t that hard to begin with, as long as you have the right codes. Whatever emulator you’re using, the steps are pretty much the same.

To sum it up, access the cheats section, put the code of your choice, save, and then check if it worked.
